The role

SSEN Transmission is seeking an accomplished Senior Manager, Economics & Investment Appraisal with extensive experience in economic analysis at both macro and micro levels, including the application of Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modelling and the development of socio‑economic impact assessments for major infrastructure projects.

In this pivotal role, you will lead a specialist team of economists and analysts to produce robust, evidence based assessments that inform multi billion pound investment decisions across our growing transmission network.  You will drive the advancement of SSEN Transmission’s economic appraisal methodologies, strengthen our cost–benefit analysis framework, and ensure rigorous evaluation of the social, environmental, and economic impacts of our investments. You will also have responsibility for carbon analysis and reporting.  You will collaborate widely across SSEN Transmission, and engage externally with Ofgem, NESO and government stakeholders to influence industry thinking and secure approval of sound, analytically robust business cases.

You will

  • Lead the ongoing development, implementation and governance of the investment decision making framework, ensuring consistent, cost effective and transparent business case development across the organisation.
  • Provide expert guidance and oversight of economic appraisal, cost benefit analysis, modelling and socio-economic assessment to support high quality investment recommendations.
  • Lead and develop a specialist team of economists, analysts and carbon experts, fostering strong performance, effective prioritisation and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Engage with key internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and industry bodies, to promote best practice, influence decision making and secure support for investment proposals.
  • Oversee the development of high quality project documentation and undertake ex-post investment appraisal to support learning, accountability and future improvement.

You have

  • Deep expertise in economic modelling, with proven experience applying computable general equilibrium (CGE) techniques and advanced analytical methods.
  • A strong track record developing socio-economic assessments for major infrastructure or regulated market environments, and the ability to use these insights to inform high value investment decisions.
  • Significant experience in economic or investment appraisal, including expert knowledge of cost benefit analysis, modelling and the assessment of economic, environmental and social impacts.
  • Proven experience leading specialist teams and influencing stakeholders at all levels, with the confidence to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • A degree or relevant professional qualification in economics, mathematics or a related discipline, with experience in carbon management and whole life carbon assessment being highly beneficial.
