The role

SSEN Transmission has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Foundation Engineer specialising in design, development and construction of Overhead line foundations. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting high profile and technically complex Capital Development projects.

You will

  • Support projects where technically complex foundation and geotechnical issues occur, using your specialist technical expertise and knowledge to help resolve them.
  • Develop OHL and Civil Engineers’ skills with respect to ground investigation, geotechnical design and structural design of OHL foundations.
  • Develop and improve engineering processes associated with the selection of foundation types and the review of foundations. Engage and work with our Network Engineering team to develop and improve internal SSEN standards associated with OHL foundation design.
  • Promote best practices with OHL foundation design and installation through suggested improvements in specifications, technology options and management of engineering risks.
  • Proactively identify, develop, champion and technically lead innovation projects in the OHL foundation area, including helping to convert innovation developments into business as usual.

You have

  • Demonstrable experience working with geotechnical and structural design of spread foundations and piled foundations, and be comfortable technically assessing issues and evaluating a range of technical solutions.
  • Effective communication skills; you should be able to communicate often complex technical issues clearly and concisely to facilitate decision making by senior management.
  • Be confident working alongside key stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally, with an appetite for building strong, lasting relationships.
  • Ideally, Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline and ideally be a Chartered Engineer in a relevant institution or working towards chartered status.

Whilst experience in the Transmission Industry and with Overhead Lines is preferred, it is not essential, and training will be provided.
