The role
SSE Thermal’s Engineering and Asset Management team ensures that critical electricity generating and gas storage infrastructure is available to meet the UK and Ireland’s dispatchable power generation needs. We are essential to ensure SSE achieves its Net Zero goals, by maximising the life of our current assets, and supporting the delivery of decarb ready, hydrogen and carbon capture new build projects. The Rotating Plant team is central to these activities, providing asset integrity support and technical assurance across SSE Thermal’s gas turbines, steam turbines, compressors, pumps and associated balance of plant. This role will focus mostly on compressor and pump systems, with opportunities to support other aspects of our rotating assets.
You will
The Senior Engineer in the Rotating Plant team will be responsible for leading a wide range of technical assurance and asset integrity work as technical authority for compressor and pump systems, including:
Lead advanced technical and engineering analysis to add value or mitigate risks, including root cause analysis, asset life assessment, and safety cases.
Lead technical assurance activities during planned and unplanned outages, and inspection and maintenance activities.
Lead the technical assurance of new build systems through design and construction, including verification and validation.
Lead knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the fleet, by keeping up to date with best practice, industry lessons learned and by development and maintenance of our technical standards.
Support and mentor progression of junior colleagues.
You have
To be considered for the role, we would like you to have:
Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution.
A desire to continuously learn and improve yourself, colleagues, and the ways in which SSE supports our assets.
Experience in compressor and pump system overhauls, repair, operation, legislation, design standards and industry good practice.
An ability to undertake and communicate advanced engineering analysis and conclusions to a variety of stakeholders.
Full driving license as trips to operational sites will be required.
