The role
SSE’s Community Investment team administers a portfolio of community benefit funds in line with Scottish Government best practice. The Senior Community Investment Manager - North of Scotland be responsible for shaping and delivering the funding strategy for SSE Renewables’ funding strategy in the north of Scotland. An understanding of the Highlands and a strong network of connections across the area are essential. Experience of community development or community funding would be an advantage.
Reporting to SSE's Head of Community Investment, you will manage a small and expert team of Community Fund Managers and will also directly manage a portfolio of multi-million-pound community investment funds – building and maintaining positive community investment initiatives and ensuring a legacy of sustainable communities is achieved. You will manage the risk profile of funds and minimise financial, delivery and reputational risks linked to the funds. You will be responsible for developing a lasting and effective relationship with communities and stakeholders across the region. You will ensure fund evaluation, governance and reporting are carried out.
Due to the nature of working with communities and community organisations, it is expected that there will be significant travel required to visit fund locations, fund recipients and community representatives. It also requires some out-of-hours working (evenings and weekends).
You will
People management – the post holder will be responsible for managing a small team of community fund managers and overseeing the performance of the funds in the Highlands and Highland Perthshire.
Community fund development – the post holder will have the responsibility for the development and delivery of the community funds in line with best practice.
Relationship management – the post holder will be the primary contact for assigned funds and will manage the relationship with a range of influential stakeholders in relation to the funds.
Strategic oversight – The Community Investment Funds operate in a complex and multi-layered strategic landscape and the post holder will ensure that funds are delivered in line with SSE’s funding principles.
Communications – promote the funds and funded projects by maximising publicity
You have
- Significant experience of managing stakeholder relationships with an ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders from communities to government. Experience of working in an external relations or communications role could be an advantage.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills, including confidently delivering presentations.
- A detailed understanding of some or all of the following would be an advantage -the funding landscape and third sector; local and national government; and the energy sector and associated infrastructure.
- A proven ability to grasp, distil and convey complex issues to a range of stakeholders appropriately.
- A passion for delivering a just transition to net zero in the interests of consumers.
