Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations – Inverness is preferred but Perth and Aberdeen would be considered.
Salary: £58,100 - £75,100 depending on skills and experience + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available. Site presence required minimum 2/3 days per week at Auchterawe substation, Fort Augustus.
The role
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to lead refinement and delivery of the Fort Augustus substation extension project during the Delivery phase 2025-2030. There is continuity of work after 2030 on our evolving pipeline of work.
It is an exciting period of growth for SSEN Transmission, we have an increasing number of complex and challenging infrastructure projects to shape and deliver collaboratively. The Senior Project Manager is a pivotal role in our Capital Delivery team and the successful candidate will play an important part in enabling the energy transition, supporting the Scottish and UK Government's Net Zero ambitions
You will:
Lead and inspire a high-performing SSEN project team through matrix management, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture while partnering with external contractors to deliver project excellence.
Oversee the safe and timely delivery of the Fort Augustus Project, ensuring alignment with cost, quality, and environmental targets, and contributing to the strategic success of the wider BDUP scheme.
Manage and develop a team of approximately six project and construction management professionals, supporting career growth and promoting diverse talent within the organisation.
Champion safety and governance, promoting adherence to SSE’s Safety Management Systems and Large Capital Projects (LCP) processes, while role-modelling proactive leadership behaviours.
Drive strategic alignment with the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) plans, ensuring delivery meets environmental, community, and stakeholder expectations.
You have:
A solid foundation in engineering and/or construction, with significant experience in successfully developing, managing, and delivering complex infrastructure projects within a regulated environment — ideally with leadership responsibility across multi-disciplinary teams.
A strategic understanding of delivering major infrastructure projects within a programme or portfolio context, including managing project-to-project interfaces and contributing to broader organisational goals.
A professional qualification in Engineering or Project Management, with proven experience managing multiple contracted delivery partners under the NEC3 suite of contracts, and a track record of driving performance and collaboration.
A comprehensive understanding of the UK Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the ability to embed these obligations into project delivery and team culture.
A collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse teams and stakeholders — fostering a culture of respect, development, and shared success.
