The roles

SSEN Transmission has exciting opportunities for Project Managers and Senior Project Managers to join our Onshore Capital Delivery team, supporting the delivery of major transmission infrastructure projects across the North of Scotland, including the replacement of the 132kV Overhead Line between Fort Augustus and Ardmore, Isle of Skye.

We're recruiting at both Project Manager and Senior Project Manager level, with responsibilities aligned to experience and project complexity. Whether you're looking to build on your project leadership experience or take ownership of major project packages, you'll join a supportive and collaborative team delivering critical infrastructure that will help enable the energy transition.

These roles will support the delivery of major transmission infrastructure projects, including significant civil engineering, overhead line (OHL) and associated project development activities. Experience of working on large-scale infrastructure projects, including exposure to planning and consenting requirements, would be beneficial but is not essential. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact while helping deliver Scotland's and the UK's Net Zero ambitions.

You will

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams through collaborative matrix management, building strong relationships with contractors, delivery partners, communities and key stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Manage the development and delivery of major transmission infrastructure projects, including civil engineering and overhead line (OHL) works, ensuring safe, timely and high-quality execution.
  • Champion SSE's Safety Culture and leadership values, promoting wellbeing, environmental responsibility and sustainable project delivery.
  • Work closely with internal specialists, including environmental, land and planning and consenting teams, to support successful project outcomes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • For Senior Project Manager opportunities, provide leadership across complex project packages, supporting team development and driving strategic delivery outcomes aligned to the Transmission business plan.

You have

  • Experience managing projects under NEC contracts, with the ability to support or lead delivery across complex infrastructure programmes.
  • A successful track record of delivering large-scale construction, civil engineering, utilities, energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and delivery partners.
  • An appreciation of the planning and consenting requirements associated with major infrastructure developments, with experience working alongside planning, environmental or consenting specialists viewed favourably.
  • A qualification in engineering, construction or project management (or equivalent experience), together with a good understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and project governance principles.

Onsite presence is expected 3 days per week as a minimum, therefore a full driving licence is required.

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to be restless every day until we make electricity clean, affordable and available for all.

We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. This includes electricity transmission and distribution networks, onshore and offshore wind farms, hydro-electric power and flexible thermal generation. We also provide products and services for businesses and other customers.

Our investment plan will see SSE invest £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure to 2030.

SSEN Transmission own and operate the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all – we're upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown power for the future and building the infrastructure needed for a cleaner electricity system to create secure power for generations to come.
