Project Development Manager

Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in our Dublin office. 

Salary: €65,300 - €97,900 depending on skills and experience + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

At SSE Thermal, we’re leading the transition to a net zero electricity system by 2035 through the development of innovative, low carbon thermal generation technologies. Our flexible generation fleet plays a vital role in balancing the grid, and we’re investing in cutting-edge solutions like hydrogen and post-combustion carbon capture (CCS).

We’re looking for a Project Development Manager to support the delivery of a major pipeline of low carbon infrastructure projects. These include large-scale hydrogen and CCS developments – some in collaboration with partner organisations – with investments running into the hundreds of millions of pounds.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of energy, working on technologies critical to decarbonising the power sector.

Some of your other main accountabilities will include;

• Supporting Senior Project Managers in overseeing complex projects from early development through to Final Investment Decision (FID).
• Liaising with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to support project delivery.
• Providing input in the delivery of development activities including planning consent, procurement strategies, risk management, and execution planning.
• Contributing to the development of robust project business cases, manage development expenditure (Devex), and secure internal approvals.
• Delivering timely project updates and executive reports, track KPIs, and escalate risks or issues with clear solutions.

To be successful in this role, we would love you to have;

• Experience in large capital infrastructure project development, ideally in the energy, power, or hydrogen sectors.
• A relevant engineering qualification supported by demonstrable knowledge in infrastructure or power generation technologies.
• Experience in developing investment cases, managing risk, and delivering commercially sound outcomes.
• Confidence working independently, prioritising effectively and delivering results in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
