Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness 

Salary: £58,100 - £75,000+ car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role

SSEN Transmission has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Building Services Engineer to provide specialist engineering support to drive engineering excellence, innovation and technical development of our growing team and business.

You will

  • Coordinate and lead standardisation in design, processes, innovations, training, and technologies that enable more efficient delivery of engineering work within the discipline.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to support Seniors and Project Engineers on complex or high-priority issues within projects or strategic planning for our growing network.
  • Drive the management of strategic technical risks related to policy, supply chain, and performance issues to ensure project growth is effectively managed.
  • Collaborate with key technical stakeholders—including Network Engineering, Project Delivery teams, and Asset Management—to verify project proposals, meet business needs, and identify scope changes that ensure projects are delivered efficiently, without putting the network at risk.

You have

  • In-depth knowledge of building services industry codes and standards, including experience working within RIBA stages, for the design of utility control buildings to ensure effective long-term operation.
  • Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional institution, or demonstrable progress towards chartership.
  • Proven experience in developing a data-led approach to design validation and specification compliance for transmission substation building requirements, including the ability to technically assess issues and critically evaluate proposed solutions.
  • Desirable optional experience: LVAC/DC distribution boards and battery systems, ventilation requirements, and familiarity with ATEX/DSEAR principles.
  • Strong communication skills, including presentation, oral, and written abilities, with the capacity to form clear, structured arguments and provide reasoned justifications to influence and guide stakeholders at all levels
