Power Systems Technical and Engineering Manager

Base Location: Flexible Scotland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots in Perth or Inverness.

Salary: £66,100 - £99,100 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

The Power Systems Technical and Engineering Manager plays a key leadership role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the North of Scotland network. You’ll guide real-time control, support outage planning, and ensure system readiness. This role also helps shape future strategy, influence technical standards, and build a supportive environment where your team has the tools and confidence to meet growing operational demands.

You will

  • Ensure safe and reliable network operation by leading people and processes in line with Transmission licence standards across the North of Scotland.
  • Make informed decisions on network changes during commissioning and outage planning, balancing technical needs with long-term outcomes.
  • Collaborate with NESO and industry partners to resolve challenges, support outage plans, and enable timely, secure project delivery.
  • Build and nurture a skilled, inclusive team, designing processes that meet regulatory obligations and prepare us for future growth.
  • Represent SSEN Transmission internally and externally, offering expert guidance and leading responses to major system events and stakeholder engagements.

You have

  • A demonstrable understanding and experience of the regulated energy sector or similar regulated industries and experience at a senior and expert level of a nationally critical operational business environment.
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience, ideally with Chartered status or operating at that level.
  • Deep expertise in power systems engineering, operational safety, and regulatory frameworks.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to influence policy and build trusted relationships across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and leadership skills, with the ability to guide teams through complex challenges and support them under pressure.
