The Role

As a Planning Manager (Energy Markets), you'll join a highly respected team where your insight, curiosity and expertise will help shape decisions across a complex GB energy portfolio. You Will

  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, working collaboratively to develop robust, well-governed recommendations and opportunities.
  • Translate complex market dynamics and data into clear, engaging narratives that help senior leaders navigate change with confidence.
  • Monitor regulatory developments, market trends and industry challenges, thoughtfully assessing commercial impact, risk and opportunity.
  • Promote high standards of governance, safety, controls and continuous improvement, ensuring accuracy, integrity and attention to detail in everything you do.

You Have

  • Significant experience within GB energy trading, market operations or energy analytics, with deep knowledge of power and gas markets.
  • Strong commercial awareness and advanced analytical capability, with the ability to draw meaningful insight from data and market information.
  • Experience using coding, analytical or data management tools to solve problems, improve efficiency and support evidence-based decision-making.
  • The ability to communicate complex information with clarity, building trust and influencing stakeholders at all levels, including Executive and Board audiences.
  • A collaborative and inclusive approach, sharing knowledge openly, supporting others' success, and contributing positively to a culture where safety, wellbeing and continuous learning are valued.

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to be restless every day until we make electricity clean, affordable and available for all.

We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. This includes electricity transmission and distribution networks, onshore and offshore wind farms, hydro-electric power and flexible thermal generation. We also provide products and services for businesses and other customers.

Our investment plan will see SSE invest £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure to 2030.

SSE Energy Markets secure the energy needed to power customers' lives, while creating value for SSE. Our Energy Markets trading teams buy the fuel needed to deliver cleaner energy and sell power generated in our wind farm, hydro and thermal assets back to the markets.
