Salary: Up to circa £65,000 + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.

The role
As part of the SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works, we are looking for an Overhead Lines Project Engineer to support its delivery.
This role will sit within SSEN Transmission's Project Engineering team with a primary focus on AC Overhead Lines systems and specific experience with transmission networks would be desirable. We encourage candidates with a project engineering background, ideally with experience in 132kV and above voltage overhead line engineering background in either contractor, consultancy, or client organisations within the Energy Industry to apply.
Candidates from other industries will also be considered such as those from Distribution Utilities or Transportation, having transferable skills and a willingness to learn within the Transmission Industry.
You will
- Provide overhead line engineering support for major 400kV, 275kV and 132kV projects across the full project life cycle, working as part of a multidiscipline project engineering team.
- Take on a Lead Project Engineering role on some Projects, leading on engineering governance, co-ordination of all Engineering Disciplines and support/assist others in the project team around managing engineering risks and utilising opportunities for the project to excel.
- Act as the point of contact for overhead line engineering and represent engineering at key strategic, commercial, programme and site project meetings.
- Promote and manage safety within the assigned projects through the implementation of CDM procedures and practices, ensuring the project engineering is compliant with company, HSE and industry regulations.
- Work closely with Engineering Managers and Project Managers to ensure that Engineering and Quality risks are identified and mitigated.
You have
- Strong technical skills in overhead line development, design, and specification—or demonstrable transferable experience.
- Familiarity with overhead line design software (e.g. PLS-CADD) is advantageous but not essential.
- A technical degree or HND, with relevant experience in the field.
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset with the ability to explore design options and apply evidence-based decision-making.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and deliver information effectively across all levels.
