The role

As an SSEN Design Engineer you'll primarily be responsible for managing the project design phase from initial high-level scoping through to detailed design, costing and handover to delivery whilst guided by a suite of engineering standards. The project portfolio includes our regulatory CAPEX reinforcement and asset replacement commitments as well as connections for renewable energy, battery storage and demand increases.  These will include all elements of the distribution network; overhead lines, cables and substations operating at and up to 33kV.

You will

  • Develop detailed scopes of work, linear plans, electrical and civil layouts, single line diagrams and stage by stage drawings whilst considering operability, network risk and cost efficiency.
  • Manage specialist consultancy services and review detailed designs.
  • Implement safety by design to eliminate hazards and reduce risk.
  • Initiate project tender events and carry out detailed evaluation.
  • Manage key stakeholders throughout project lifecycle.

You have

  • Experience in the application of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • A minimum HNC in a relevant engineering subject.
  • Previous experience working for or with a Distribution Network Operator along with experience in the design or construction of distribution networks up to 33kV.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience of project financial management.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and network modelling tools would be beneficial.

This role involves travel across various locations to support business needs. To enable you to fulfil these responsibilities, as a role requirement, the company will provide access to a vehicle for work-related travel.

The requirement will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and if the company car policy criteria are met, there will be an opportunity to join the company car scheme. Provision of a company car or cash allowance does not form part of the contractual terms and conditions of employment for this role.

A valid driving licence is essential.
