Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations – Perth.

Salary: £49,004 to £57,728 + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role

We are seeking a Modelling and Analysis Engineer to join our control support team to provide guidance and support to the 24/7 real-time Transmission control room, support the Transmission outage planning team, and help ensure and maintain system readiness and resilience.

You will help ensure safe operation of the northern Scotland network and support the control room with modelling and analysis of strategic projects and new connections, including HVDC systems, FACTS devices, and offshore windfarms.

If you have an academic background in power systems or are at an earlier stage in in your career in electrical power systems and looking to move into a modelling and analysis role, please do apply.

We are also open to experienced engineers who would be looking to apply transferable skills to a new industry. We would welcome applications from postgraduate and PhD students who have completed or are about to complete their studies.

You will

- Support control teams with power system modelling and analysis, maintain real-time analysis tools, and assist with long-term and operational resilience planning studies.

- Maintain the real time operational power system model ensuring that all network changes are accurately modelled and incorporated not the system model.

- Work with our simulator environment to support out technical training team to run simulated scenarios for training and development of our teams.

- Control Room Support and Guidance – Provide support across the control room functions where modelling and simulation skills are required.

- Utilise Monitoring and Control Systems – Utilise control room tools and software such as SCADA to help extract data to support operation of the network and our reporting obligations.

 You have

- A minimum of an HNC qualification in Engineering, Physics, or another STEM discipline. At least some knowledge and understanding of electrical power systems and the related network operation and design standards and practices.

- Some familiarity with power system analysis software, such as PSSE, PSCAD or Power Factory or similar would be preferred. Knowledge of the Python scripting language would also be advantageous.

- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, structured technical reports and use your knowledge and communication skills to engage with senior engineers.

- Ability to analyse and solve problems through logical analysis and in collaboration with others within a real time control environment.
