Lead Project Manager

Base Location: Rome preferred (Flexible across Italy however you will be expected to spend around 2 days of your working week in our Rome office, with regular travel to project sites and stakeholder locations across Italy.)

Salary: €60,240 - €90,360 depending on experience + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

As Lead Project Manager, you'll play a key role in growing SSE Renewables' onshore portfolio in Italy. You'll lead the development of wind, solar and battery storage projects from early-stage identification through permitting and investment approval, while managing and developing a high-performing team.

Working closely with internal specialists, external partners and key stakeholders, you'll help deliver projects that support Italy's energy transition and contribute to SSE's international growth ambitions.

You will

• Lead the development of multiple onshore renewable energy projects across Italy, taking projects from early-stage development through permitting, Ready-to-Build and Final Investment Decision.
• Build, lead and develop a team of project developers, creating a collaborative, high-performing environment that supports professional growth.
• Manage relationships with local authorities, landowners, communities, grid operators and development partners to secure project approvals and progress development activities.
• Oversee technical, environmental, commercial and financial workstreams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with budget, programme and governance requirements.
• Support the continued growth of SSE Renewables in Italy by contributing to business development activities, acquisitions, joint ventures and portfolio strategy.

You have

• Significant experience leading the development of large-scale renewable energy projects in Italy, including wind, solar or battery storage, through permitting and investment approval.
• Strong knowledge of Italian planning, permitting and regulatory processes for renewable energy developments, together with a sound understanding of the Italian energy market.
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop, motivate and support multidisciplinary teams while managing multiple complex projects.
• Strong commercial and project management skills, including financial planning, risk management and stakeholder negotiation.
• Fluent Italian and English communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
