Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations – Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness. We would also be interested in applicants from the Western Isles where the projects are located.
Salary: £66,100 - £99,100 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
The SSEN Transmission Western Isles Offshore Delivery team is currently recruiting for a Lead Project Manager to lead the delivery of the HVDC Land Cable package to directly facilitate Scotland's ambitions to meet Net-Zero. You will be responsible for the development of the delivery and procurement strategies and the award and management throughout delivery. You will play a pivotal role in the development of stakeholder relationships and lead in the successful planning, implementation and delivery of the execution phase, ensuring collaboration across the supply chain and managing project internal and external interfaces. Working closely with and guiding the project team to ensure safe delivery of the works in line with the business case.
The scale of our Offshore portfolio of projects is already large with continued growth anticipated in the coming years, creating great opportunities for progression within the Transmission business.
You will
- Be accountable to the Business for the safety, health and wellbeing of all personnel, and for environmental aspects of those Transmission project activities being managed, including compliance with our framework behaviour charters and the CDM regulations.
- Lead and drive the development of positive internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Lead the preparation of the regulatory submissions to secure the project funding and subsequently accountable to the business for the delivery of the project / package within this.
- Planning, monitoring, and controlling projects or packages in line with the Project Execution Plan(s) and Procurement and Commercial Strategy to ensure that these are delivered safely, on schedule and within quality targets whilst completing contract management.
- Ensure the project adheres to our Safety Management Systems, best practices and the SSE Large Capital Projects (LCP) Governance processes.
- Lead teams, ensuring these are highly competent, well-motivated, and organised to deliver consistent excellence whilst demonstrating our core values. Take line management and mentoring responsibility for your direct reports to ensure they perform their required duties and are given all available opportunity to develop.
You have
- A proven track record of safely delivering packages of work or projects to cost, schedule and quality in the Transmission, Construction, Oil & Gas, Nuclear, or other regulated industry / the wider utilities sector.
- People management experience and a passion for safety, with an understanding of project management methodology and practice to lead a multi-discipline team to success; coupled with an engineering, construction, or project management qualification / degree or equivalent experience.
- Engineering or construction knowledge and understanding, including associated environmental and safety legislation e.g. CDM 2015 regulations combined with Contractual management experience (NEC3 experience is preferable), with the ability to forecast and control costs as well as develop and manage integrated project programmes.
- Experience of the governance, reporting, and management requirements for project and / or programmes of work in a regulated environment, with prior budget responsibilities, ideally £100m+ and confident in managing multiple project execution issues whilst analysing and prioritising key delivery risks and issues for the project on an ongoing basis.
- An open and collaborative mindset, with excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships across diverse teams and locations.
