The role

We're looking for an experienced HR Manager to join SSE's Southern Europe business on a fixed-term basis. Reporting to and partnering closely with the HR Business Partner supporting the International Business Development BU, you'll work alongside senior leaders to align people priorities with business objectives, enabling growth, transformation, and high performance across our operations in Southern Europe.

This is an exciting opportunity to operate in a dynamic, international environment, providing both strategic and operational HR support across multiple European jurisdictions while helping to foster a performance-driven, inclusive, safe, and sustainable workplace culture.

You will

  • Support the delivery of the annual people plan in partnership with specialist HR teams, including Learning, Recruitment and Reward, while contributing to long-term workforce strategies aligned to business growth ambitions.
  • Lead and advise on a broad range of employee relations matters, including collective bargaining, consultation processes, organisational change, and the implementation of people policies and frameworks across multiple European countries.
  • Provide trusted coaching and guidance to business leaders across the employee lifecycle, including workforce planning, recruitment, reward, performance management, employee engagement, organisational design and talent development.
  • Partner with senior leadership teams to foster a high-performing, inclusive and collaborative culture, embedding SSE's Blueprint, strategic Drivers and Behaviours to support sustainable business success across Southern Europe.
  • Oversee HR operations across Southern Europe, ensuring effective payroll governance, benefits administration, vendor management and compliance with local employment legislation, collective agreements and regulatory requirements.

You have

  • Strong HR generalist experience gained within a complex, international environment, with a commercial, pragmatic approach to problem solving and managing competing priorities.
  • Experience working with employee representative bodies, trade unions, works councils or similar forums, ideally across Spain, France, Italy or other European countries.
  • Proven ability to build credible relationships, influence stakeholders at all levels and provide trusted advice to senior leadership teams.
  • Experience managing HR operations across multiple jurisdictions, including payroll oversight, benefits administration, compliance activities and employee relations matters.
  • Strong judgement, discretion and communication skills, with a solid understanding of European employment legislation and employee relations practices; additional European language skills would be advantageous.
