We are at an early stage in Germany, with offices in Hamburg actively exploring opportunities across a range of technologies, such as offshore wind, flexible generation and infrastructure, making this a genuinely exciting time to join. The successful individual will play a pivotal role in shaping our reputation, influencing the market, and driving forward projects that will contribute meaningfully to Germany’s energy transition while establishing SSE as a long-term, trusted partner in the market.

The role

We're looking for a commercially minded and strategic leader to drive the identification, development and execution of partnerships, joint ventures, acquisitions and platform investments that support SSE's growth ambitions across Germany and selected international markets.

Working closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams, you'll build and manage a pipeline of strategic opportunities across renewable generation, battery energy storage, flexible thermal generation, hydrogen, energy infrastructure and networks. Using your industry knowledge and established network, you'll position SSE as a trusted long-term partner while leading complex transactions from origination through to completion.

You will

  • Develop and execute SSE’s corporate development and partnership strategy across Germany and selected European markets.
  • Originate, assess and execute acquisitions, joint ventures, co-development agreements and platform investments across the energy sector.
  • Lead end-to-end transaction execution including structuring, valuation, due diligence, negotiation and investment approval processes.
  • Build and maintain senior relationships with developers, utilities, investors, banks, advisors and public sector stakeholders.
  • Prepare high-quality investment cases and decision papers for Investment Committee and Board approval.

You have

  • Extensive experience in Corporate Development, M&A, Strategic Partnerships or Principal Investment in energy, utilities, infrastructure or renewables.
  • Proven track record of leading complex transactions from origination through to completion.
  • Strong commercial and financial skills including structuring, negotiation, modelling and investment appraisal.
  • Deep understanding of German and European energy markets, including renewables, BESS, hydrogen, flexible generation and regulation.
  • Strong stakeholder network and proven ability to engage and influence senior executives, investors and public sector counterparts
