Put your learning into practice and discover a career in Finance

A Finance Summer Placement at SSE is an opportunity to experience what working in finance is really like. You'll apply the skills you're developing at university, learn from experienced finance professionals and contribute to a business investing in the UK's energy future.

What is the Role?

Finance is at the heart of how SSE makes decisions. As we invest in the infrastructure, technology and people needed to support the transition to net zero, our Finance teams provide the insight and expertise that help us understand performance, manage risk and make informed investment decisions.

During your summer placement, you'll join one of our finance teams and gain practical experience in a professional working environment. Depending on where you're placed, you could gain exposure to areas such as:

  • Financial Accounting
  • Management Accounting
  • Internal Audit
  • Treasury
  • Corporate Finance
  • Commercial Finance & Business Partnering

You'll work alongside experienced colleagues, contribute to meaningful work and develop skills that will support both your remaining university studies and your future career. Most importantly, the placement is an opportunity to explore whether a career in finance is right for you and experience what it's like to work at SSE.

What We're Looking For

You'll be in your third year of university and returning to university after your summer placement. Your degree doesn't need to be in Finance or Accounting. We welcome students from any degree discipline who can demonstrate an interest in developing their commercial and financial understanding.

You'll likely be someone who:

  • Enjoys working with data and information to solve problems.
  • Is curious about how organisations make financial and commercial decisions.
  • Communicates clearly and builds positive working relationships.
  • Is organised, adaptable and keen to learn.
  • Takes ownership and looks for opportunities to contribute.
