About the Role
Base Location: Perth - there is the requirement to be based in the Perth office 3 days per week, with flexibility to work from home the remainder of the week.
Salary: £40,600 - £61,000 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available. To align with GB energy market opening hours the working hours of this role are 07:00-15:30 including a 1 in 4 weekend rotation with enhanced payment provided.
The Role
Working as a Prompt Planning Analyst you will learn how the GB and international electricity and gas markets operate, understand how hedging is used to stabilise revenue, all while developing your knowledge across many different disciplines such as weather forecasting, commodity trading and financial reporting.
No day is the same in this exciting, dynamic and creative role. You will collaborate with colleagues who have a vast range of expertise assisting in:
- Recommending and supporting short-term trading strategies by maintaining existing models and developing new ones.
- Make plant scheduling decisions across a large multi-asset portfolio including hydro, wind, battery and thermal stations.
- Monitoring, reporting and presenting out-turn performance.
Working at SSE you will contribute to a company at the forefront of tackling climate change; currently building the world’s biggest offshore windfarm; developing carbon capture/storage project for sustainable flexible generation and building on our heritage in hydroelectric power by exploring opportunities for natural energy storage.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Previous experience of working within an analytical role.
- Working knowledge of PowerBI, Python and SQL.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as you will be collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- A degree within STEM, Economics or Finance disciplines and/or experience within energy markets would be beneficial but not essential.

Energy Markets (EM) is the energy markets heart of the SSE Group, securing value for SSE's asset portfolios in wholesale energy markets as we move towards our vision of being a leading energy company in a net zero world. We play a critical role as the short-term energy market asset optimiser, and a long-term energy market adviser, for all SSE's Business Units (across SSE's Wind, Hydro, Low Carbon Thermal, Distributed Energy and Customer portfolios). This role for EM enables SSE to focus its investment in energy markets capabilities (including Trading, Risk Management, Energy Economics, Settlements and Advanced Analytics) in one centre of excellence, with these enhanced capabilities supporting value creation and decision making across the SSE Group.
