Trainee Fitter (Plant workshop)

Base Location: Thatcham

Salary: £33,063 - £38,404 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role 

The Trainee Fitter will assist the plant workshop fitters in conducting inspections, refurbishments, and maintenance of Substation Equipment from the Low Voltage (LV) and High Voltage (HV) Network. This includes working on Electrical Switchgear and Transformers of varying sizes. Additionally, the role involves supporting the Plant Workshop in building and assembling unit substations, as well as refurbishing and maintaining other equipment essential to the HV and LV Network. This ensures the continued and reliable service provided by the Plant Workshop.

You will 

• The role will also include receiving, unloading, inspecting and putting away supplier deliveries. This will involve using an Overhead Gantry Crane and 8 tonne Forklift Truck, making sure delivery paperwork is correct and passed to plant workshop admin team for processing.
• You will also be required to load and offload Transformers at our third-party storage facilities as and when required.  
• You will also be required to undertake ad hoc, cyclical and annual stock checks within the workshop.
• Undergo training both in house and attending external courses to learn about the building and assembling of Unit Substations (11KV) ranging from 500 to 1500 KVa to specific build requirements from our customers.
• You will also learn about stand alone items including  switchgear and Padmount transformers.

You have 

• • Basic experience of using hand tools
  • A high regard for safety, embedding yourself in our safety culture and adhering to guidelines in everything you do. Be comfortable in challenging any unsafe behaviours or attitudes, in relation to any unsafe practices.
  • Experience of creating and reviewing risk assessments and method statements 
  • The ability to work alone or with a diverse team of multi-disciplined engineers and managers. 
  • Highly organised and able to manage your time effectively
