The role
SSEN Transmission Asset Management are currently looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Cable Systems Asset Engineer, to join our Circuits team within the Asset Condition and Engineering team.
As the Cable Systems Asset Engineer you will understand the health, performance and risk of our cable system assets, identifying and prioritising timely interventions to support our network security ambitions, with technical influence over their life-cycle management.
A typical day will involve working closely with operational, technical and delivery teams to solve technical problems, manage risk, support operational challenges, deliver value and contribute to the overall operational excellence of the business. This will require a practical approach combining effective and efficient technical advice and knowledge of our cable system assets. You will get the opportunity to develop yourself and work with individuals across Transmission.
You will
- Assess, understand, and predict the performance, integrity, and condition of underground and/or subsea cable assets across the transmission network through detailed technical analysis. Based on this analysis, make recommendations for necessary interventions by authoring accurate asset condition reports.
- Evaluate and design interim mitigations and permanent interventions for assets with substandard condition or performance, ensuring alignment with legislative and regulatory requirements and supporting our energy security objectives. Create and prioritise replacement and renewal plans for cable systems to inform business planning
- Provide specialist cable systems engineering support and expertise across a portfolio of projects including investments in the existing network and network growth. Review and advise on third-party enquiries that could impact on our cable systems to identify potential synergies, conflicts or risks.
- Undertake regulatory and benchmarking reporting specific to cable system assets.
- Work collaboratively with fellow Asset Engineers to share expertise from your own asset class and broaden your understanding of others. Engage proactively with a wide range of stakeholders to understand their needs, identify key information sources, and deliver timely engineering data and assessments.
You have
- An engineering qualification at degree level, or equivalent High Voltage (HV) networks operational experience.
- Experience in asset integrity assessments, management of risk and performance, design, construction or operation and maintenance of transmission voltage cable system assets.
- Working knowledge of appropriate British and International Standards, Codes of Practice and specifications relevant to HV cable systems.
- A positive and flexible attitude, with ability to respond to emergent challenges paired with excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Experience of data management systems such as Autodesk Vault, ViewPoint, Trimble Construction One, MS SharePoint, CyberHawk I Hawk, ESRI ArcGIS, IBM Maximo or EA Technology Invest, would be an advantage.
