The role

The BU Controller provides critical financial control and accounting assurance to support Business Unit Finance Directors in delivering accurate, reliable financial results and robust financial statements. They act as the key link between the business and central finance processes, ensuring consistent application of accounting judgement, strong control performance, and high-quality outputs that reflect underlying business activity. Safety, governance and responsible decision-making sit at the heart of everything they do.

You will

- Apply sound accounting judgement to ensure Business Unit financial results accurately reflect underlying business activity and support informed, responsible decision-making.

- Partner collaboratively with Business Unit Finance Directors and central finance teams to resolve complex accounting matters and agree appropriate accounting treatments.

- Oversee the delivery of high-quality financial outputs across reporting cycles, including month-end, year-end, disclosures and statutory accounts.

- Lead audit interactions and help foster a strong culture of financial control, governance, compliance and safety across all reporting activities.

- Act as the key interface between the business and the Record to Report (R2R) Centre of Excellence, building strong relationships and ensuring alignment between financial reporting and business performance.

You have

- A professional accounting qualification (ICAS, ICAEW or equivalent) with post-qualification experience gained within a complex, regulated or listed organisation. Relevant industry experience is preferred but not essential.

- Strong knowledge of IFRS and the confidence to apply accounting judgement to complex or ambiguous accounting matters.

- Experience supporting external and internal audit processes, working collaboratively to provide clear and accurate information.

- A strong understanding of financial control frameworks, governance requirements and the importance of maintaining safe and compliant operations.

- The ability to build trusted relationships across teams, work effectively within structured environments and contribute positively to shared service or Centre of Excellence models.
