Salary: £45,452 to £54,311 + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role

SSEN Transmission is seeking an Auxiliary Technician (Electrical) – Auxiliary Services to support the continued safe, reliable and efficient operation of our transmission substations across the north of Scotland. This is a hands-on technical role within a critical area of the network, helping ensure the auxiliary systems that support our substations remain available, resilient and ready to meet the demands of a growing electricity system.

You will

  • Inspect, operate and maintain Transmission Substation Auxiliary services, including low voltage switchboards and switchgear, 110/48v DC battery systems and standby generators.
  • Provide front-line technical expertise and day-to-day work coordination across Substation Auxiliary systems, supporting the safe and reliable operation of the Transmission network.
  • Work closely with Substation Maintenance teams, building strong relationships to help coordinate and deliver inspection, repair and maintenance activities within your discipline.
  • Take hands-on responsibility for a wide range of high-value, network-critical electrical assets, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standards.
  • Interpret and analyse inspection data from internal and external sources, taking ownership of remediation, rectification or replacement activity, while accurately recording completed work and escalating developing asset defects or failure trends.

You have

  • An electrical apprenticeship, SVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification, supported by experience as an Electrical Technician or in a similar role. Mechanical knowledge would be advantageous.
  • British Standards 7671 18th Edition accreditation.
  • The ability to coach, mentor and support less experienced colleagues.
  • Confidence supervising non-routine and complex tasks independently with the ability to fault find using drawings, schematics and other technical information.
  • Experience in electrical inspection and testing, with C&G 2391 or EAL equivalent desirable.
