About the Role

Base Location: Perth, Glasgow, Reading or Portsmouth

Salary: £37,075 - £43,063 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Join our Networks Finance team as an Assistant Accountant and play a key role in managing the financial performance of over 20,000 electricity connection projects across southern England each year.  This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the delivery of essential infrastructure while enhancing your finance expertise.

As Assistant Accountant, you will:

  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate financial control, cost allocation, and achievement of financial targets.
  • Manage the review and closure of completed connections projects in your assigned regions, ensuring compliance with Ofgem regulations regarding profit margin and supporting regulatory reporting.  Act as a key point of contact for Cost Analysts, offering expertise to the regions on project closure, ensuring that project workbooks are completed accurately and on time.
  • Monitor project profitability and work with stakeholders to ensure we are meeting gross profit targets on a monthly basis, challenging overspends on projects and implementing solutions. 
  • Provide financial guidance and training to networks business staff on project accounting, including project billing processes.
  • Support the Operations Finance Manager with account reconciliation and month-end regional reporting.

What do I need?

 To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A finance professional with a solid grounding in finance qualified to HND level in accounting (or equivalent) as a minimum.  Experience gained in a regulated business would be advantageous.
  • Experience with Oracle EBS including project billing, as well as strong MS Excel skills.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively within project teams and take the lead when necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain key relationships.  You’ll also be required to visit regions on a regular basis to support business as required on connection activities.
  • Analytical with a proactive mindset and the ability to drive process improvements.
