The role

As a Senior Energy Analyst, you’ll step into a trusted and visible role where your insight, care and commercial judgement will genuinely shape decisions across a complex GB energy portfolio. You’ll bring deep market understanding and a thoughtful, data-led approach to help the business navigate change, make confident trading and portfolio choices, and identify opportunities in fast-moving power and gas markets. Working in close partnership with stakeholders up to ExCo and JV Board level, you’ll be valued for your ability to translate complexity into clarity, build shared understanding, and deliver outcomes with diligence and integrity.

You will

- Provide expert, high-quality analysis across GB power and short-term gas markets (including BM, spot and day-ahead) to support timely, confident decisions

- Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop well-governed, commercially robust insights and recommendations
- Turn complex data and market dynamics into clear, accessible narratives that support senior leaders and decision forums
- Help shape commercial opportunities by monitoring regulatory change and industry challenges, and thoughtfully assessing impact and risk
- Bring care and precision to your work, maintaining strong attention to detail and supporting governance and controls

You have

- Deep experience and expertise in highly specialised areas of GB energy trading and market operations

- Strong commercial understanding and advanced numeracy, with confidence building insight from data and systems
- Comfort with coding and/or data management approaches, and an interest in continuously improving analytical capability
- A proven ability to influence with clarity and empathy - supporting stakeholders at all levels up to Executive Director and Board
- A collaborative, grounded style: you share knowledge generously, ask for help when needed, and bring others with you through change

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to provide energy needed today while building a better world of energy for tomorrow. We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. Our Transforming for Growth investment plan sees us investing £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure across the five years to 2030.

SSE Energy Markets secure the energy needed to power customers' lives, while creating value for SSE. Our Energy Markets trading teams buy the fuel needed to deliver cleaner energy and sell power generated in our wind farm, hydro and thermal assets back to the markets.
