Our Regulation Year in Industry Internship offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience within SSEN Transmission.
You'll work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to meaningful projects and gain valuable insight into how regulation helps shape investment decisions, supports critical infrastructure projects and enables the development of the electricity network.
What is the role?
At SSEN Transmission, we're investing in the people, infrastructure and expertise needed to support a secure and reliable energy system for the future.
Our Regulation team acts as the interface between SSEN Transmission and the economic regulator, Ofgem, helping to secure the investment needed to operate, maintain and develop the transmission network.
During your 12-month internship, you'll join the Regulation team and contribute to real work from the outset. You'll support a wide range of activities, helping colleagues understand and respond to regulatory requirements while contributing to the successful delivery of major investment programmes.
Depending on the projects and priorities at the time, you could be involved in:
- Supporting the preparation and review of regulatory submissions and evidence.
- Gathering, analysing and presenting information for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assessing the effectiveness of regulatory reporting and submissions.
- Conducting research and analysis to support business decision-making.
- Working with colleagues across the business to understand the impact of regulatory requirements and changes.
Alongside gaining practical experience in regulation, you'll develop your analytical, commercial and stakeholder management skills while benefiting from mentoring, structured development opportunities and support from experienced colleagues across SSEN Transmission.
What we're looking for
This opportunity is intended for students who are currently in the second or third year of university and are looking to undertake a 12-month Year in Industry internship as part of their studies. You'll be expected to return to university to complete your degree following the internship.
You'll be studying towards a degree in Economics, Law, Engineering, Sciences, Politics or another closely related discipline.
We're looking for students who are excited by the opportunity to gain an understanding of how regulation, policy and commercial decision-making support major infrastructure investment. You'll likely be someone who:
- Enjoys analysing information, exploring different perspectives and using evidence to support recommendations and decisions.
- Is interested in how regulation, policy and commercial considerations influence organisations and large-scale projects.
- Is comfortable working with data, numbers and written information, identifying key insights and communicating them clearly.
- Builds positive relationships, communicates effectively and enjoys working with people from a range of professional backgrounds.
- Is curious, adaptable and motivated to learn, taking ownership of your work and approaching new challenges with enthusiasm.
