The role

We’re seeking a highly motivated Outage Planning Engineer to join our Distribution Control Centre team at SHEPD. This role plays a key part in achieving our ambitious ED2 and ED3 price control objectives, involving both current-year and future-year outage planning.

You will

  • Coordinate and oversee planned outages across the SHEPD network, ensuring all activities prioritise safety, maintain system security, and consider stakeholder impacts.
  • Lead the outage planning process in line with internal procedures and policies.
  • Clearly communicate outage risks and potential impacts to internal teams, external customers, and third-party stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
  • Conduct network studies using PSSE, SINCAL, and PowerFactory to identify constraints and support contingency planning.
  • Support strategic, long-term outage planning and collaborate with transmission operators to minimise disruption and optimise network performance.

You have

  • A qualification of HNC or above in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • A solid understanding of electrical networks ranging from 11kV to 275kV, including how they interact.
  • An understanding of power systems engineering and operational safety rules.
  • Excellent planning and time management abilities, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and lead discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
