The role

Operations play a vital role in keeping the lights on, working at the forefront of the electricity network to ensure a safe and reliable power supply for our customers. When faults occur, we respond quickly, coordinating our skilled field teams to restore power as efficiently as possible. Operating around the clock and in all weather conditions, we are committed to minimising disruption and delivering an excellent service to the communities we serve.

We're looking for candidates with a Mechanical or Electrical background to join our team. In this role, you'll be involved in inspecting, maintaining and repairing the electricity network, helping to ensure a safe, reliable supply of power for our customers.

You will

  • Maintain electrical equipment across the electricity network up to and including 33kV, ensuring work is completed within agreed timescales and supplies are restored as quickly as possible following planned or unplanned outages.
  • Respond to emergency fault scenarios, supporting the safe and efficient restoration of the network.
  • Inspect, maintain and repair operational switchgear, transformers, busbars, relay panels and associated electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Carry out network switching and restoration activities up to 33kV within authorised limits, including planning how, when and where work will be undertaken.
  • Build positive relationships with customers, businesses, local authorities, highway agencies and National Grid, delivering excellent customer service and acting as an ambassador for SSEN.
  • Work outdoors in a field-based environment and adapt to changing priorities, weather conditions and operational demands.

You have

  • Experience in Mechanical or Electrical fitting is essential.
  • Knowledge of the Electrical Distribution Network would be an advantage, but not necessary as training can be provided.
  • A high regard for safety with strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills as these are essential to this role as we deal with customer related regularly.

A clean driving licence and flexible approach to working hours and work location is essential.
