The role

This is a rare opportunity to lead and shape SSE Renewables' onshore wind development business in Poland at an exciting point in the market's growth. As Head of Development, you'll establish and grow our development platform, build a high-performing team, and create a pipeline of high-quality onshore wind projects capable of supporting our long-term investment ambitions.

Working at the forefront of Poland's energy transition, you'll combine greenfield development with strategic project acquisitions, building strong partnerships across the industry while helping position SSE as a leading renewable energy developer in the Polish market. As our business evolves, you'll also have the opportunity to influence future investments across other low-carbon technologies.

You will

  • Build and lead a high-performing development team, creating the capability, processes and partnerships needed to establish and grow SSE's development platform in Poland.
  • Develop and deliver a pipeline of onshore wind projects, leading activities from site identification and land agreements through planning, environmental permitting, grid connection and Ready-to-Build status.
  • Identify, assess and support the acquisition of development projects that strengthen our pipeline, working closely with commercial, legal and technical colleagues.
  • Build trusted relationships with landowners, local authorities, grid operators, regulators and industry organisations, helping to navigate Poland's evolving renewable energy landscape.
  • Lead development strategy, investment decisions and development budgets, ensuring projects are commercially attractive while effectively managing development risk.

You have

  • Extensive experience leading onshore wind development in Poland, with a proven track record of successfully delivering projects through the Polish development process to Ready-to-Build.
  • Strong knowledge of the Polish renewable energy market, including planning, environmental permitting, zoning regulations, land agreements and grid connection processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to build, inspire and develop multidisciplinary teams and manage specialist consultants and external partners.
  • Strong commercial judgement and strategic thinking, with experience assessing development opportunities, acquisitions, investment decisions and development budgets.
  • An established professional network across the Polish renewable energy sector, with excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
