The role

Are you an experienced leader with a passion for renewable energy, commercial performance and operational excellence? This is an exciting opportunity to lead the strategic, operational and commercial performance of our onshore renewable asset portfolio across the UK, Ireland and Europe.

As a member of the Onshore Renewables Leadership Team, you'll play a key role in shaping business strategy, maximising the value of our operational portfolio and supporting our ambitious growth plans. You'll have overall accountability for balancing safe, reliable and efficient operations with strong commercial performance, ensuring our assets continue to deliver long-term value while supporting the transition to net zero.

You will

  • Lead and inspire a diverse team of employees and delivery partners to operate our onshore renewable assets safely, efficiently and sustainably, fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture built on continuous improvement, innovation and operational excellence.
  • Develop and deliver short, medium and long-term operational, maintenance and asset lifecycle strategies that optimise safety, reliability, availability, production and whole-life asset value, while driving continuous improvement across the portfolio.
  • Maximise the commercial performance of the asset portfolio by balancing operational and commercial priorities, working closely with Finance, Energy Markets, Commercial and Investment teams to optimise revenue, manage risk, oversee significant capital investment programmes and support portfolio investment and divestment decisions.
  • Drive the digital transformation of the asset portfolio by championing the use of data, digital technologies and AI-enabled insights to improve asset performance, maintenance strategies, operational decision-making, forecasting and fleet optimisation.
  • Represent SSE's interests across Joint Venture partnerships, governance forums and Boards where required, contributing to business strategy, portfolio growth and organisational transformation while ensuring the long-term success of our onshore renewables business.

You have

  • Significant senior leadership experience in asset management, operations or a related commercial environment, with a proven ability to balance operational performance, commercial outcomes and long-term asset value across large, complex infrastructure portfolios.
  • Strong commercial acumen, including experience managing substantial operational budgets, leading capital investment programmes, negotiating with suppliers and making strategic decisions that maximise portfolio performance and shareholder value.
  • A deep understanding of renewable energy markets and the commercial drivers that influence asset performance throughout the asset lifecycle, together with experience developing long-term operational, maintenance or asset management strategies.
  • Experience leading high-performing, inclusive teams through change, fostering a culture where safety, collaboration, continuous improvement, innovation and digital adoption are embedded in everyday decision-making.
  • Excellent influencing, communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working across Executive teams, Joint Venture partnerships and Boards, alongside a passion for leveraging digital technologies, data analytics and AI to enhance operational performance and business outcomes.
