Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time

At SSE Renewables, our Control Engineers play a critical role in the safe and efficient operation of one of the UK's largest renewable energy portfolios.

As a Control Room Engineer, you'll be responsible for the real-time operational control of our fleet of Onshore Wind, Solar and Battery Energy Storage assets across Great Britain and Ireland. Working within our 24/7 Control Centre, you'll make critical operational decisions that directly influence asset performance, safety, regulatory compliance and commercial outcomes.

This is an opportunity to be at the heart of our business, ensuring renewable generation is available when it matters most while helping maximise the value delivered from our assets.

You will

  • Monitor and control SSE Renewables' Onshore Wind, Solar and Battery Energy Storage assets in real time, responding effectively to alarms, operational events and changing network conditions to maintain safe and efficient operations.

  • Operate High Voltage and Low Voltage plant and apparatus in compliance with Grid Code requirements, safety rules, Safe Systems of Work, operational procedures and company standards.

  • Coordinate with System Operators, Transmission Owners and Distribution Network Operators to safely execute operational instructions and manage activities across network boundaries.

  • Maximise asset availability and reliability by managing planned and unplanned outages, supporting the safe and timely return of assets to service and protecting asset integrity.

  • Optimise commercial performance whilst maintaining regulatory compliance through accurate management and reporting of asset capability and availability, ensuring the business can maximise value across multiple energy markets.

You have

  • An engineering qualification (HNC or above) or significant relevant industry experience, supported by a strong understanding of power generation, operational environments or critical infrastructure.

  • Experience operating or monitoring electro-mechanical plant and equipment, ideally within the energy sector, including control room, system operations or real-time operational environments.

  • Knowledge of industry regulations, Grid Codes, High Voltage safety rules and Safe Systems of Work, with operational authorisations or switching experience being advantageous.

  • Strong technical, IT and communication skills, including experience of SCADA or other operational monitoring systems, with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and coordinate effectively with multiple stakeholders.

  • The ability to make sound decisions under pressure, solve complex problems, adapt to changing priorities and demonstrate a high level of accountability, motivation and commitment to safe, efficient operations.

Location & Shift Requirements

Given the nature of this critical operational role, successful candidates must currently reside, or be willing to relocate, within approximately a 45-minute commute of the Perth Control Centre.

Information on our shift rota pattern and associated shift allowance is available on request.
