The role

SSEN Transmission is at the centre of enabling the transition to a net zero energy system. As the connections landscape continues to evolve, we're looking for a Connections Policy Manager to help shape the future of customer connections to the transmission network through policy development, industry reform and regulatory change.

In this varied and high-impact role, you'll work across a diverse portfolio of demand, generation and storage connection areas. You'll bring together expertise from across the business and wider industry to develop aligned policy positions, assess risks and opportunities, and support the implementation of industry change.

You'll work closely with colleagues across SSEN Transmission, as well as organisations including NESO, Ofgem, DESNZ, network operators and customers, helping to influence positive outcomes that support our customers, stakeholders and strategic ambitions.

You will

  • Develop, maintain and advocate SSEN Transmission's positions on customer connections policy, industry code changes and wider industry reform, identifying associated risks, opportunities and impacts for customers and the business.

  • Lead the development of consultation responses, position papers, briefing notes and recommendations, bringing together input from subject matter experts to create clear, aligned and evidence-based positions.

  • Represent SSEN Transmission in industry working groups, consultations and stakeholder forums, building effective relationships with NESO, Ofgem, DESNZ, network operators, customers and other industry bodies.

  • Collaborate with teams across the business to ensure policy developments are considered from operational, commercial, customer and strategic perspectives, identifying implementation requirements and dependencies.

  • Manage a portfolio of policy and industry workstreams, balancing competing priorities, stakeholder needs and timescales to deliver effective outcomes for customers, stakeholders and the business.

You have

  • Understanding of policy, regulatory or industry frameworks, governance structures and commercial processes. Experience working within the energy sector or other regulated environments would be beneficial.

  • Experience developing policy positions, consultation responses, regulatory submissions, industry proposals or other evidence-based recommendations.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and build consensus across complex stakeholder groups.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex policy, regulatory or technical matters into clear and accessible information for different audiences.

  • Experience managing multiple complex workstreams, assessing risks and implementation challenges, and balancing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to be restless every day until we make electricity clean, affordable and available for all.

We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. This includes electricity transmission and distribution networks, onshore and offshore wind farms, hydro-electric power and flexible thermal generation. We also provide products and services for businesses and other customers.

Our investment plan will see SSE invest £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure to 2030.

SSEN Transmission own and operate the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all – we're upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown power for the future and building the infrastructure needed for a cleaner electricity system to create secure power for generations to come.
