We are the electricity Distribution Network Operator (DNO) responsible for delivering power to over 3.8 million homes and businesses across central southern England and the north of Scotland. We serve some of the most diverse and unique geographies across the UK, and keep customers and communities connected whilst developing the flexible electricity network vital to achieving net zero.
We're powered by talented, enthusiastic people in a range of roles driving the business to meet our responsibilities and achieve our goals. That’s why we’re looking for talented individuals with bags of energy who get the job done and deliver engineering excellence.
Join us and you will be supported by a dedicated Distribution Graduate Manager to support and enable you to maximise your time on the programme. You will work towards your chartered engineer status and be provided with the support of an experienced chartered engineer to share their experience with you. You will contribute to keeping the lights on and be part of achievement of net zero.
Your first year will provide you with the foundation blocks of your future career, developing both engineering excellence and leadership talent. You will rotate every three months into different business areas and travel to key sites to gain better understanding of the Distribution business.
In your second year, you’ll gain all round knowledge of the business and get involved in more in-depth projects, including working with other graduates. As well continuous improvement training and wider learning events, you will be involved in several three month placements throughout your final year.
Upon completing your engineering graduate programme in SSEN Distribution you will be embedded as a valued part of one of our specialised teams. Our previous graduates have secured roles such as Protection Engineers, Asset Engineers, System Planners, Control Engineers, Field Engineers, Designers, Project Managers, Civil Engineers and many more. Many of our graduate alumni are now leaders within our business.
An increase in low-carbon distributed generation, electric vehicles, demand side response and energy storage are transforming our network, giving customers access to new products and services.
To accommodate the changes that will enable net-zero, we are transitioning from operating as a Distribution Network Operator (DNO), to become a Distribution System Operator (DSO). We are putting customers and communities at the heart of the process and ensuring the best value for money. In 2017, we published Supporting a Smarter Electricity System which outlines the principles we will adhere to during this transition. Our transition to DSO demands greater flexibility in management of the electricity network to ensure supply and demand are always balanced.
