Strong leadership is key to our success at SSE. That’s why we offer a wide range of development programmes to support managers and senior leaders in building the skills they need to lead high-performing, inclusive teams.

Our programmes include:

• Aspiring Managers – flexible online development that supports colleagues build the skills and experience they need to step into their first management role.
• Leading Others – designed for first-line managers to strengthen core management capabilities.
• Leading Leaders – tailored for senior leaders to explore leadership values, refine their personal leadership style, and drive strategic thinking.  New for 2025, we are piloting individual coaching support to help these leaders embed their learning in improved leadership practice.   
• Leadership Live – a dedicated portal, developed with Ashridge Business School, offering a competency mapping tool and a suite of leadership resources.
• Leadership Blueprint – our long-standing framework outlining five core competencies and the skills needed to embed SSE’s culture and values.
• Career Development Programme – an annual cohort-based programme delivered in partnership with Ashridge Business School to support leadership growth.
• Henley Partnership Learning Events – online and in-person sessions focused on current leadership challenges and development needs.
• Internal Development Programmes – designed to accelerate career progression for identified talent, covering topics like coaching, communication, presentation skills, and change management.
• Igniting Inclusion Programme – supporting senior leaders to explore key inclusion topics such as the neuroscience of diversity, growth mindset, and psychological safety.
