The EPM Front Office team is responsible for managing the market risk faced by each of SSE’s business units. This is achieved though trading of energy and related commodities in physical and financial markets. The energy trading team provides market insights to enable SSE to make strategic decisions that are affected by forward market prices, supported by our analytics and data science capabilities. The Energy Management Centre is a 24/7 shift team, responsible for managing the SSE energy portfolio and assets real time, adding value through participation in all energy and ancillary markets, whilst maintaining compliance with all regulatory, legal and market frameworks. The Contracts and Origination teams are responsible for the negotiation, execution and ongoing management of all fuel supply, power station, infrastructure and master trading arrangements for all SSE’s energy portfolio as well as delivering EPM’s structured contract agreements and developing new business relationships for profitable growth opportunities, within the UK and Europe.
The EPM Middle Office Team is responsible for forecasting and managing the commercial, operational, credit and enterprise risks affecting our business and the markets in which we operate. Key services include independent commodity market risk measurement and management, oversight of EPM’s profitability, planning and commercial optimization of SSE’s demand and generation portfolios aligned to Group hedging strategies. Assuring that energy market trading and related activities are compliant with relevant regulatory, legislative industry and market obligations.
EPM’s Back Office play a key enabling role responsible for ensuring that EPM has the data, systems and settlements processes required to deliver both business and customer value. Provision of secure, supported, reliable, resilient systems and data that meet commercial needs, regulatory requirements and deliver operational efficiency, meeting the needs of EPM and our BU customers. Supporting product/service design and end to end processes to deliver route to market services, traded products, and structured contracts. Identifying, developing, and implementing system and process change to leverage commercial opportunities with efficient process design and operational excellence.
Energy Economics provide the SSE Group with independent long-term focused strategic analysis, energy code management, interpretation and advocacy across each of the energy markets in which the Group is active. The team is responsible for producing long-term economic forecasts, revenue and cost projections for SSE’s Energy Assets, providing detailed market analysis for both SSE’s current and prospective international jurisdictions.
The Energy Markets team in Ireland coordinate the wholesale market activities required to maximise the value of SSE’s portfolio in Ireland. These activities include forecasting wholesale prices and Renewables output, optimally dispatching Thermal assets and efficiently hedging the energy required for the Retail business. The team generate innovative solutions to deliver on business unit priorities, energy related risks and opportunities, advising on how changes in the wholesale market could impact SSE’s business units in Ireland.

Abi joined SSE through our internship scheme with a geography degree.
She worked with E&P as a business analyst, a year and a half later joined the EMC where she has now been for four years, initially trading gas and then onto the power trading desk.
