POWERING THE COMMUNITY

Become an SSEN Transmission commercial graduate.

We are responsible for the electricity transmission network in the north of Scotland, maintaining and investing in the high voltage 132kV, 220kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network. Our network consists of underground and subsea cables, overhead lines on wooden poles or steel towers, and electricity substations. It extends over a quarter of the UK’s land mass, crossing some of its most challenging terrain.

SSEN Transmission has ambitious plans for the future of Scotland’s electricity transmission system. Join our team and help us power change.

Thinking about applying? Here's what you need to know.

Transmission has a crucial role in our growing network of renewable energy and transporting it across the country. By joining our transmission commercial graduate programme, you will play a critical role in the transition to a low carbon future and add value to our strategy team. To help us achieve this, you can expect to join our business planning and performance team to make an impact in corporate affairs whilst being a part of a wider graduate cohort and working on major projects with our key business leaders.

On day one, you will meet other SSEN Transmission graduates and network with our Directors and Managing Director. You’ll take a lead role in organising and attending SSE graduate conferences and be involved in engagement activities from primary schools up to universities.

The placements last between three to six months, working in areas including business planning and performance, strategy and sustainability, innovation and commercial policy. You’ll take a leadership role across numerous work areas and present various pieces of work to managers, directors and our Managing Director. You’ll also have the opportunity to complete a project management qualification and progress your learning in areas of interest.

In your second year, you’ll visit sites across Scotland to experience wider SSEN Transmission projects and activities. You will have the opportunity to complete stakeholder engagement training and engage with external stakeholders such as Ofgem.

During your three month placements, you’ll work in areas such as corporate affairs, system planning and our commercial team to develop your technical knowledge.

Building on your work in year one, you’ll play an important part in the creation and delivery of engagement activities from primary schools to universities. There will be activity away days with your fellow graduates and you’ll celebrate the end of the programme with a two-day conference and a networking dinner.

When you complete the commercial graduate programme, you’ll become a valued part of the business planning and commercial team. Our previous graduates have secured roles as Economic Analysts, Business Performance Analysts and Commercial Business Analysts, leading on key projects and impacting strategic decision making within SSEN Transmission.

SSEN Transmission is vital to our net zero ambitions. Our network transports huge quantities of clean, green renewable power to over a quarter of the UK land mass, and across some of its most challenging terrain. As the way we live our lives changes, billions of pounds of investment will be required to meet energy demands for now and the future. Through a fair, balanced and considered investment programme, SSEN Transmission is committed to improving network reliability and enabling the transition to net zero.
