Base Location: Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness. This is a site-based role, and you will be required on site 5 days per week, as well as attending regular meetings at the project's site office in Edzell, as required.
Salary: £42,600 - £64,000 depending on experience + car / cash allowance + performance-related bonus + range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role
SSEN Transmission has an opportunity for a Site Construction Manager experienced in the principles of construction and the commissioning of transmission overhead lines, substations, and/or underground cables. The Site Construction Manager will play a crucial role in the management of an overhead line upgrade project between Kintore and Kincardine, ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards. This role is based in the east of Scotland, with a site office in Edzell, where you will be based during the initial project.
You will represent the SSEN Transmission business on-site and be a key point of contact for construction on the project.
You will
- Deliver key aspects of a transmission overhead line project, including the construction, refurbishment, and upgrading of transmission overhead line assets, along with associated access and civil works.
- Ensure all project activities are carried out in full compliance with statutory and legal obligations, CDM Regulations, health and safety standards, quality requirements, and technical specifications, while managing internal and external stakeholders effectively.
- Proactively engage with appointed contractors and the SSEN Operations team to ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, with the appropriate resources in place, and in line with environmental commitments.
- Oversee on-site activities to ensure adherence to planning consents and SHE legislation, while preparing and submitting detailed progress reports and KPIs to the Project Manager.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with contractors, suppliers, and local communities, acting as a visible leader on site and championing a proactive and inclusive safety culture.
You have
- A strong background in engineering and/or construction, with experience in applying health, safety and environmental best practice, and CDM 2015 Regulations.
- Suitable qualifications in engineering and/or construction and have experience of managing sites of similarly complex works in the construction / utilities / electrical installation sectors.
- Experience and understanding of NEC forms of contracts, including previous experience fulfilling the role of NEC Supervisor, managing defects, quality monitoring through inspection, and test plans.
- Good written and oral communication skills, including the capability of representing the project internally and externally where required. Familiarity with computer systems, with the ability to use common software such as Microsoft Office packages.
- Effective leadership skills in challenging environments and the ability to cope with conflicting demands. A good understanding of project planning and tracking progress against agreed plans. The ability to maintain comprehensive project documentation including progress reports and site diaries.
The role requires a full and current driving licence due to the requirement to travel to and be on site.
