Senior Overhead Line Asset Engineer

  • 552325
  • Closing at: Jul 6 2025 - 23:55 BST

Base Location: Perth

Salary: £58,100 - £87,100 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

The role

We're looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Overhead Line (OHL) Asset Engineer to lead a dedicated Circuits team within the Asset Condition and Engineering team. This role will spearhead a growing portfolio of OHL and cable system assets. This involves taking the lead in assessing their health, performance, and risk. With strong technical influence over their life-cycle management, you'll identify and prioritise timely interventions to ensure a safe, reliable, and resilient network.

You will

- Act as a Subject Matter Expert for overhead line (OHL) assets, delivering in-depth analysis, condition assessments, and strategic recommendations to optimise asset performance and integrity.

- Develop and maintain Asset Lifecycle Plans and prioritise replacement/renewal programmes aligned with corporate and regulatory objectives.

- Act as a Project Sponsor and provide support for OHL projects from initiation to handover, including the preparation of System Requirements Documents (SRDs), Gate 4 data validation, Gate 5 recommendation for signoffs, and technical support across investment and network growth initiatives.

- Promote the accuracy and integrity of OHL asset data within key systems (IBM Maximo, ArcGIS, AutoDesk Vault), while driving improvements in asset monitoring, analytics, and performance trend analysis.

- Build strong relationships across the industry, lead OHL failure investigations, represent the organisation at technical forums, and provide mentoring and support to engineers within the Circuits team.

You have

- A degree in Electrical Engineering or other related discipline, ideally with Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it), and a strong foundation in engineering practices relevant to the transmission network.

- Demonstrable experience working on the transmission network with detailed knowledge of OHL design, development, and specification. Able to technically assess asset condition issues and critically evaluate a range of engineering solutions in line with legislation.

- Proven ability to perform asset integrity assessments, manage performance and risk, and contribute to life-cycle planning and mitigation strategies across High Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) overhead lines (and ideally, HVAC/DC cable systems).

- Effective communications skills with the ability to present complex technical issues clearly and concisely. We also require someone with the ability to influence at all levels and who can build strong relationships with all stakeholder levels.

- Proven management skills in mentoring engineers, consistently promoting high standards of professionalism.
