Energy Markets (EM) is the commercial heart of the SSE Group, securing value for SSE's asset portfolios in wholesale energy markets as we move towards our vision of being a leading energy company in a net zero world. EM plays a critical role as the asset optimiser, route to market and risk management function for all SSE's Business Units (Wind, Hydro, Low Carbon Thermal, Distributed Energy and Customer portfolios). EM enables SSE to focus its expertise and capabilities in energy markets (including Trading, Risk Management, Energy Economics and Advanced Analytics) in one centre of excellence and, with these enhanced capabilities, support value creation and decision-making across the SSE Group.
The role
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you'll join a team of developers working in Agile practices to modernise SSE Energy Markets IT practices. We are looking to fill 3 roles and welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in either Development, DevOps or Cloud engineering. You will be responsible for delivering technical change and supporting Energy markets systems.
You will
Develop, Configure and integrate technical solutions (applications).
Design and deliver scalable cloud solutions, including infrastructure as code (Terraform), application packaging and deployment, integrations, and App Services—ensuring cost efficiency and adherence to best practices.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions, collaborating closely with development teams to streamline release management and accelerate delivery.
Drive automation, security, and compliance, optimising infrastructure, reducing manual tasks, maintaining documentation, supporting ITIL processes, and participating in on-call rotations for critical system support.
You have
Strong programming skills in languages such as PowerShell, JavaScript, and C#.NET, with a keen focus on implementing secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
Extensive experience in cloud infrastructure and DevOps, with deep expertise in Terraform for infrastructure as code and strong proficiency in Azure resource management, including networking, storage, databases, and compute services.
Advanced CI/CD knowledge, with hands-on experience using tools like Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions, and a solid grasp of release management, Agile delivery, and automation best practices.
Technically curious and proactive, with a passion for continuous learning and improvement, and a strong understanding of Azure monitoring, alerting, and security frameworks.
