Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office – Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness or Glasgow.

Salary: £68,100 - £102,100 + car /car allowance - if applicable + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

Due to the continued growth of SSEN Transmission, this is a unique opportunity to lead the marine consenting and environment function, shaping the strategy that will help secure statutory marine consents, seabed leases and marine nature restoration across a major capital portfolio. You will guide a specialist team, influence marine policy and regulation, and help deliver robust consenting outcomes that support investment in the electricity network and the transition to net zero.

You will

  • Set and lead our marine consenting and environment strategy, making sure statutory consents, licences and agreements are secured in line with project, regulatory and business priorities. In
  • Lead, support and develop a specialist team, allocating resources across the portfolio and creating a collaborative culture focused on safety, quality and continuous improvement.
  • Provide senior oversight of marine consenting, fisheries management, crown estate leasing and marine nature restoration throughout the project lifecycle, resolving complex issues and helping project teams manage risk and maintain delivery schedules.
  • Build trusted relationships with government, regulators, statutory consultees, fisheries bodies and environmental organisations, representing SSEN Transmission in senior forums and helping shape policy.
  • Oversee marine consultancy frameworks, budgets, performance reporting and assurance, ensuring high-quality delivery, value for money and compliance with governance and regulatory requirements.

You have

  • Expert knowledge of Scottish and UK marine planning, licensing, environmental assessment and consenting frameworks, together with experience applying them to major marine infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of submarine cable routeing, seabed and foreshore agreements, and the environmental and consenting considerations associated with offshore infrastructure.
  • Proven experience of leading and developing specialist teams, with the confidence to set direction, manage priorities and support effective delivery across several complex projects.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging senior representatives from government, regulators, consenting authorities, industry bodies and legal teams.
  • A relevant degree in marine planning, environmental science or a related subject, plus chartered membership of an appropriate professional body such as IEMA, RTPI or CIWEM.
