Salary: £54,952 - £72,592 (depending on authorisations) + car allowance + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

We’re seeking a motivated and diligent Field Engineer to join SSEN’s Maintenance and Inspection team in Wessex, supporting the Southern Distribution Network.

You’ll be responsible for delivering maintenance and engineering solutions on EHV assets (33kV–132kV), aligned with regulatory and business plans. This includes protection testing, managing outages, and liaising with National Grid and internal stakeholders to ensure timely, cost-effective project delivery across maintenance, capital, and repair works.

You’ll hold (or be working towards) operational authorisations up to 132kV, with strong knowledge of outage risks, safety regulations (ESQCR), and internal procedures. Experience in project management, contractor oversight, and safety documentation is essential.

As a technical lead, you’ll guide investigations, drive team development, and maintain high standards of customer service and stakeholder engagement.

You will:

  • Developing scoping documentation and Protection Diagrams (MC&P).
  • Carrying out EHV protection testing in conjunction with the maintenance teams.
  • To act as a lead for support when requested to assist with the maintenance units delivery.
  • Carrying out adhoc projects in line with our RIIO-ED2 delivery.
  • Using SAP authorisations to support wider teams across Distribution / CMI department.

You have:

  • A high regard for safety with demonstrable experience of risk mitigation.
  • Ideally authorisations relating to 132kV SAP or working towards. An increase in range/salary will be applied to specific 132kV authorisations.
  • Previous experience working in design or commissioning of power system protection, ideally at a distribution level.
  • Knowledge and experience of protection relays and relay panels, CT & VT sizing calculations, protection grading studies and the producing of detailed and accurate AC/DC drawings.
  • Knowledge of UK electrical practices and standards and an understanding/appreciation of CDM regulations.

Regular travel is required and as a result we can only accept applications from candidates that hold a current driving license.
