The role
The Distribution Control Centre (DCC) in Perth is responsible for the management and control of SSEN’s High Voltage Distribution Network, which stretches from the central belt of Scotland to Shetland. We cover some of the most remote parts of the UK mainland, with almost 50,000 kilometres of network carrying electricity to homes.
We are seeking a Distribution Control Engineer to join our dynamic team based in Perth. In this role, you’ll play a crucial part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the electrical distribution network. You’ll work alongside professional engineers, applying your expertise to manage system performance, respond to network faults, and oversee switching operations.
This role offers a clear progression pathway: You will begin with a dayshift schedule, working a four-day week, gaining hands-on experience in control room operations. With time and development, you’ll have the opportunity to move into a shift-based role, expanding your responsibilities and career growth. You will
- Always adhere to the company's policies and procedures.
- Plan and execute High Voltage switching for routine work and faults.
- Oversee real time network management and security.
- Complete accurate reporting.
You must have
- Experience working on a distribution network as a Senior Authorised Person.
- Have a minimum or be willing to work towards a HNC level qualification in Engineering.
- Have excellent problem solving and communication skills.
- Possess a comprehensive knowledge of the Distribution Codes and Procedures.
