Salary: £66,100 - £99,100 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Projects Solicitor to join our well-established Legal Team to support the SSE Energy Businesses (Renewables, Thermal and Customers) across the UK and Ireland. Reporting to Head of Legal - Projects, you will form part of our team of Projects lawyers working on construction, engineering and commercial contracts. In this role there is scope to work across a number of technology types including wind (offshore and onshore), hydro, solar, battery, hydrogen and traditional thermal assets.

You will

- Work closely with legal colleagues, internal specialist corporate functions and business representatives to achieve their goals and objectives by providing high quality, pragmatic legal support and advice in relation to a variety of commercial and construction matters for both existing operational assets and new projects for the business.

- Building and maintaining good relationships with clients in the business, colleagues across the Legal Team and other internal specialist corporate functions.

- Gaining a clear understanding of our strategic priorities as a business and assist in ensuring that we deliver on our core purpose, to power communities to thrive today and create a net zero tomorrow.

- Undertaking work in-house and, where necessary, engage external lawyers from our panel firms.

You have

To be successful in this role, you'll be highly organised, delivery-focussed and solutions-driven with the ability to apply constructive challenge. You'll have a passion to work as part of a high performing team, sharing knowledge, best practice and supporting colleagues. You'll be confident and resilient in the approach to your work, legal skills and knowledge, and able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

- Qualification as a solicitor in Scotland and/or England and Wales with a minimum of 5 years PQE, with knowledge of the legal and commercial issues that are pertinent to the construction or utilities sector.

- Broad experience of commercial and construction matters (preferably in the utilities and/or energy sector) including drafting and negotiating engineering and construction contracts and associated commercial agreements.

- Comfortable working independently and within project teams and leading matters of high value and high risk.

- A proactive and pragmatic approach to giving legal advice and support in a clear and concise manner and within timescales. Demonstrates authority, credibility and maturity in their approach to their work.

- Has a high degree of confidence in their approach to their work, legal skills and knowledge with a demonstrable resilient attitude to challenging situations. Comfortable in taking the lead in challenging situations and effectively resolving conflict.
