SSE Energy Markets secure the energy needed to power customers' lives, while creating value for SSE. Our Energy Markets trading teams buy the fuel needed to deliver cleaner energy and sell power generated in our wind farm, hydro and thermal assets back to the markets.
Base Location: Perth
Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
This is a senior analyst role responsible for energy market analysis within SSE’s Market Design team. The position plays a key role in shaping SSE’s response to GB electricity market design by analysing market issues, offering commercial insight, and interpreting complex developments. It also supports the strategic direction of SSE’s Energy Businesses in the GB market and contributes to assessing relevant international opportunities.
You will
- Provide high-quality analysis to influence SSE’s strategic decisions across its Energy Businesses, ensuring trading, operational, and market frameworks deliver maximum commercial value in a changing and highly scrutinised GB market environment.
- Provide evidence-based analysis to support SSE’s advocacy on high-value market design and policy issues. Contributes to industry consultations, market reform proposals.
- Offer expert commercial insight and guidance to internal stakeholders, ensuring timely interpretation and communication of market design developments. Supports decision-making through clear and concise analysis aligned with business priorities.
- Engage internal stakeholders and provide expert guidance on market design issues.
- Influence change management through evidence-based representation of commercial interests.
You have
- Excellent electricity market analytical skills, preferably backed by relevant degree-level qualifications.
- Ability to interpret complex policy and market design matters for high-quality analysis.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of SSE’s Energy Businesses and electricity markets, both GB and international.
- Experience in energy policy and market design matters in complex wholesale, trading, commodity markets.
- Ability to provide strategic awareness of electricity market frameworks and broader Energy Business objectives.
