Senior Contract Manager

Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations :Glasgow or Perth

Salary: £59,800 - £89,800 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Contract Manager to join our Procurement & Commercial team supporting the SSE Renewables Onshore Wind, Solar & Battery Asset Management business unit 

Reporting to the Procurement & Commercial Manager, you will lead the commercial management and administration of select operational contracts. You will provide commercial advice, protect SSE’s contractual position and support the safe, compliant and cost-effective operation of renewable assets. You will also support the delivery of departmental KPIs and objectives such as savings in total cost of ownership, value engineering and safety performance.

You will combine strong commercial acumen with well-developed stakeholder management, problem-solving, communication and negotiation skills. You will be comfortable taking ownership of complex matters, working across functions and providing clear recommendations to senior stakeholders.

You will

• Develop and implement commercial and contract management strategies across the operational portfolio, ensuring supplier arrangements support SSE's long-term operational, financial and strategic objectives.
• Lead end-to-end procurement and sourcing activities for allocated projects and business requirements, including development of commercial strategies, preparation of tender documentation, evaluation of bids, negotiation of contractual terms and contract award.
• Provide commercial leadership on key contract renewals, retendering programmes and service model development, helping shape future commercial arrangements and supplier strategies across the portfolio.
• Identify, assess and manage commercial risks and opportunities, providing recommendations that support business planning, governance decisions and portfolio performance.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with strategic suppliers and internal stakeholders, driving performance improvement, innovation and long-term value delivery.
• Act as the commercial lead for selected contracts and business requirements, managing material contract changes, claims, disputes and supplier performance issues where direct commercial ownership is required.
• Drive continuous improvement in contract management practices, governance, commercial controls and supplier management frameworks, supporting the development of commercial capability across the wider business.

You have

• A degree in Quantity Surveying, Procurement, Commercial Management or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. A professional qualification (e.g. MRICS, MCIPS or equivalent), or working towards one, would be advantageous.
• Significant experience in procurement, commercial management and/or contract management, ideally gained within the energy, utilities, infrastructure, engineering, construction or other regulated sectors.  
• Proven experience leading complex procurement activities, commercial negotiations and contract management activities, including management of commercial risk, contract change, claims, supplier performance and dispute resolution.
• Strong commercial and analytical capability, with the ability to interpret complex contractual and financial information, challenge assumptions and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and engage effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders at all levels.
• A strong understanding of procurement governance, contract management best practice, delegated authorities and the controls required when making commitments on behalf of SSE, together with proficiency in Microsoft Office and commercial systems such as Jaggaer, Oracle or similar procurement and contract management platforms.
