Salary: £77,488 - £91,285 + car allowance + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Join a forward-thinking team as a Real Time Systems Design Manager

Our Technical Services Team plays a critical role in shaping the future of the Distribution network by delivering Operational Technology solutions. From advanced Protection and Control Systems to Real-Time and Telecommunications Systems, we design and support the technologies that keep the network safe, reliable, and ready for tomorrow’s challenges.

You will:

  • Lead and promote operational safety across the Distribution network, including developing safe systems of work and ensuring Real Time Systems support network safety and are properly commissioned.
  • Oversee the planning, design, and delivery of Real Time Systems (6.6kV–132kV), supporting capital projects, customer connections, and fault diagnosis.
  • Manage a team of expert engineers, handling project planning, mentoring, safety, and compliance, while supporting technical strategy and ensuring accurate asset data.
  • Collaborate with trade bodies, contractors, manufacturers, and internal teams across the SSEN Distribution business.
  • Help shape future strategy in SCADA and Protection & Control, staying current with tech developments and influencing system design and specifications.

You have:

  • Significant experience in utility/engineering environments with a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven leadership in coaching, motivating, and managing teams to achieve performance goals.
  • Expert knowledge in SCADA, Protection, Teleprotection systems, RTUs, telemetry, and communications.
  • Strong operational understanding of electricity networks, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, including technical reporting and workload prioritisation.

There will be a need for travel and a full UK driving license is essential.
