Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
Our Large Capital Delivery team is seeking a Lead Design Engineer to support our £4bn RIIO-ED2 business plan across the SEPD Distribution areas. In this role, you'll lead the design team responsible for a range of projects spanning from 11kV to 132kV.
You will
- Oversee a diverse project design portfolio, coordinating with internal and external resources, maintaining quality control of design outputs in line with SSEN standards, and approving designs efficiency.
- Drive the development and delivery of cost-effective engineering solutions, from feasibility studies through to detailed design packages and final design sign-off.
- Lead daily operations of the design team, enhancing productivity and customer service while optimising costs and improving contractor performance.
- Identify and implement improvement initiatives, set performance targets, and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) across the wider Engineering Design team.
- Collaborate closely with contractor design partners to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery of design outputs in line with project schedules.
You have
- A degree in Electrical Design (preferred), or a Higher National Certificate (HNC) with substantial relevant experience.
- Proven experience in people management with strong leadership and team coordination skills.
- Solid engineering design expertise, with a strong understanding of design governance and CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines and thrive in collaborative team environments.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
