Pamela McKnight-Gardner - Finance Graduate

First, tell us a bit about yourself! What programme did you join at SSE and where are you based?

My name’s Pamela and I joined SSE in 2021 as part of the finance graduate scheme. I’m based in Glasgow.

What did you study at university?

I studied Accounting and Finance at the University of Glasgow.

Which sectors did you consider applying to for your graduate role? What made you choose SSE and the area you are now working in?

The Big draw for me is the work environment that SSE encourages – it’s very supportive, particularly in the journey to becoming a professional accountant.

How did you find the recruitment process?  Do you have any advice for students considering applying for the SSE Graduate Programmes?

The recruitment process was challenging (in a good way!). I found it a beneficial experience and a good first step of easing into the grad programme.

Tell us a bit about your current role?

My first placement was within Renewables Finance for a year working within the Joint Ventures team. I really enjoyed my first year of the grad programme. I got great exposure to Renewable finance and enjoyed working with encouraging, knowledgeable and supportive people. There was a variety of work within this placement, and it really helped put into practice what I have learnt in theory at university and ICAS.

Are you working towards a professional qualification?

I’m currently working towards an ICAS qualification which will allow me to become a Chartered Accountant. I’ve received a great amount of support for this through study days and experiences shared from colleagues that have gone through the same qualification. Everyone is always more than happy to help when asked and offer advice and support.
