About the Role

Base Location: Arbroath

Salary: £36,260 - £44,257 (depending on skills and experience)

Permanent | Full Time Hours (37)

Our Role

We invest millions every year to make sure that our network is in the best condition possible to minimise the risk of power cuts and to ensure the safety of the public. During high winds and storms, trees can contact our equipment and cause power cuts, and so we cut them down or trim them back to keep the lights on. As well as installing the latest technologies and carrying out regular maintenance, we have our in-house tree-cutting team to make sure that trees and vegetation are kept away from our overhead lines and equipment.

We are seeking a manager to join our team in Tayside East who will take overall responsibility for all tree cutting activities within that area. This includes running an operational team who manage trees and vegetation in proximity to the Distribution network on a cyclical basis as well as all ad-hoc tree cutting works.

Key accountabilities of the role

  • Active management of a tree cutting programme to deliver required outputs, production reporting in a timely and accurate manner including providing realistic forecasts
  • Maintain a safe working environment through site visits, safety briefings and incident investigation providing an open and inclusive safety culture within the team
  • Effective management of an annual budget ensuring all work is completed within cost parameters
  • Provide mentoring and support to lesser skilled members of the team whilst actively contributing during team meetings / group calls covering safety, production etc.
  • Identifying and implementing areas of improvement with particular focus on efficiency whilst providing a high level of customer service

What do I need?

The preferred candidate for this position would have previous experience in tree cutting, forestry or arboriculture although similar capacity experience will be considered. Experience of working with overhead power lines, and climbing skills would be advantageous, although not essential.

Knowledge of the electricity network would be beneficial, however for the right applicant full training will be provided. You'll possess enthusiasm and drive with a flexible approach to your work and an ability to adapt to changing business and project priorities; you may have to work away from home occasionally. Due to the travel requirement within this job, a full and current UK driving licence is essential.

Whilst the above skills and experience are important, we also have several personal competencies that we look for in our future employees;

  • High regard for safety, embedding yourself in our safety culture and adhering to guidelines in everything you do is a key priority.
  • Good communication skills & comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.
  • Good organisational skills with an ability to work to deadlines.
  • Good customer relationship skills, and a commitment to providing a high level of service at all times.
  • Able to use a computer & basic software such as Word, Excel, OneDrive & Teams
