Salary: £45,200 – £67,800 + annual bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What is the Role?

Leadership in sustainability is a strategic objective of SSEN Transmission as we play a critical role in the achievement of the UK’s net-zero targets.

We were the first energy network in the world to receive external accreditation for a science-based target in line with a 1.5°C global warming pathway. We take a holistic approach to sustainability that encompasses people, communities, the environment and our fair contribution to society.

SSEN Transmission has an amazing opportunity for a Sustainability Manager to build upon our achievements and take our sustainability activities to the next level.

The key duties and responsibilities are:

  • Ownership of SSEN Transmission’s Sustainability Strategy working with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve and develop our sustainability goals.
  • Communicate the sustainability ambition in a way that is meaningful to all employees and build a proud team, of direct and indirect reports, passionate about sustainability.
  • Take the lead in sustainability implementation and practices across all business functions within SSEN Transmission, providing advice and support.
  • Measure our sustainability performance and be vigilant for improvements in sectoral, national and international best practices. Advise our Board and Executive Committee on sustainability goals and report on performance.
  • Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders across the field of sustainability, and be visible in representing SSEN Transmission in national events and forums.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A passion for making a difference within our business and with our stakeholders, with demonstrated achievements in business sustainability. Experience in the analytical and organisational techniques for business and corporate strategic development and implementation.
  • An ability to be rigorous and thorough in assessing best practice and leadership opportunities in sustainability, seeking multiple data sources and opinions, and from this establishing cogent strategic hypotheses and practice.
  • Strong networking and engagement capabilities across a diversity of internal and external stakeholders in many fields.
  • Knowledge of the sustainability sector, with specific expertise in either people, community, environment, carbon or societal impacts. Knowledge of the energy or utility sector and a working understanding of regulatory frameworks.
  • The ability to lead and manage cross-functional project teams in a matrix environment, covering multiple challenges and objectives.
